We’ve featured this song in our Select playlists before. I’m sharing it now since the video has just come out.
There’s lots to like about this song: a simple melody that’s easy to remember and sing along to, nice words, and definitely not over-produced. In fact, much of this song’s aesthetic choices hark against a lot of the prevailing choices made my established pop musicians in Pakistan.
Notably to me, there are two very few basic layers of audio here: an atmospheric tone starts the song, the tabla kicks in, and from then on an acoustic guitar and a drum kit take hold. They are not complicated, but they are effective. The vocals are wonderfully untreated. There is no over-zealous use of auto-tune, and the vocal remains prominent in the mix.
