Alaap-rock band Bayaan have had a solid audience for many years, but in July last year their following multiplied. Largely due to the viral popularity of a song released in official form 8 years prior, called Nahin Milta. It’s a sweet, sincere song about how the promises of life do not always come true.
The song going viral last year grew Bayaan’s popularity almost 10-fold. In my experience studying data of this sort, this scale of viral popularity is very hard to predict. More often than not the instigating event is the use of the song by a popular influencer, or in an unexpectedly popular video. What causes the use of the song is even more nebulous to understand. But the better the song, the more likely it is that this sort of event could occur.
Once this event occurs, the good artists are able to keep their new audience and their attention with a stellar body of work. Which in this case, Bayaan has been able to do.
But in seeing this sort of trend there is hope for other musicians who are sitting on good work that is yet to blow up. Good discographies are an appreciating asset.
Lots of good bass lines out there for people to discover!
