Editor’s Note: Friend of the show Laila Dodhy writes about the latest track from Natasha Noorani1
Natasha Noorani’s latest song Matlabi flows like water. It washes over you and envelops you so completely that by the time it is over, you come out in a daze. Then you go back to it again and again in hopes of grasping onto it. Her vocals reverberate complementary to the hypnotic synth line provided by the producer Talal Qureshi.
In her interview with Honeyjamn, she speaks about her training with Akbar Ali in khayal gayaki. She explains that khayal is more about relaying a certain emotion than a note. This training can be felt deeply in Matlabi where you can understand the bittersweet feeling even if you do not know the language. Showing again that music transcends barriers.
Matlabi’s visually stunning music video and impeccable color grading take the song to even newer heights by depicting how the color red can be bewitching and dangerous in equal measure.
