Hamnawa Analytics: Top Growing Artists in 2022
Over the last year, I’ve established analytics mechanisms to understand the Pakistani music industry empirically. At the end of the year, it is interesting to probe on which artists stood out.
A simple way to do this would be to look at who has the largest audience. Unfortunately this does not tell us the movement in the industry, and is limited to identifying only established players. Similarly, we could look at who’s audience grew the most in absolute terms, but again this is susceptible to the size of each artist’s existing audience at the beginning of the year.
So for me, the most informative way to ask this question is who’s audience has grown the most proportionately to where they started the year. This reveals a much more interesting picture of which artists are rising up in the industry, and would be worth investing your time and brands’ money in.
All of this work is part of Hamnawa Analytics, a proprietary data service tracking 340+ Pakistani musicians across platforms, covering 12,000+ data points. I am offering this service to production companies, brands & artists.
Here are the artists who grew most in 2022, along with how much they’ve grown. I’ve done this analysis by looking at Spotify Monthly Listeners, which is a measure of how many people listen to each artists on Spotify in a given month. I’ve compared the numbers from early January 2023, to the earliest numbers I have for each artist, which is usually in the beginning of 2022. I filtered out artists that had less than a certain amount of listeners in January, primarily because at small enough numbers the proportional increases begin to highlight outliers.
