After moving back to Seattle I spent a little bit of time listening to Pearl Jam, and soon enough got into Eddie Vedder & Nusrat’s collaboration for the Dead Man Walking soundtrack.
Love this and face of love too! Lots of strange similarities between rock and qawwali. Also not too long ago discovered a Jeff Buckley cover of Nusrat, which sounds much like a white dude singing qawwali but interesting that it exists nonetheless.
Only heard his cover on halka halka suroor, and most endearing quality for me is the fact that it’s him - but maybe others are better, can’t find those. Yeah I really like the Peter Gabriel ones.
That's the only one I know of. Buckley spoke about Nusrat highly, and of his personal connection to Nusrat's material, and given that context the recording takes a new color.

I quite like the Jeff Buckley recordings, very sincere. Nusrat's recordings with Peter Gabriel also quite nice.

Ofcourse that definitely lends it a different significance and I guess music as art is not always meant to be judged quickly in isolation and without the intention/meaning behind it. Apparently there were more covers though possibly unrecorded: https://www.musicmusingsandsuch.com/musicmusingsandsuch/2016/09/18/feature-my-favourite-live-album-the-700th
